According to Desert News, GeneTree.com has announced a new series of specialty DNA tests on Monday that identify a wider scope of one’s family history.

The new tests provide more specific genetic information that makes possible the answers to what are considered puzzling genealogical issues—some that have been unanswered questions for generations.

GeneTree.com new specialty services “are designed to help fill in the gaps and locate the missing pieces in an individual’s genealogical profile” If you can provide answers before testing it would be very helpful to the outcome of the tests, which include:

  • Extended Y-chromosome haplotype. This provides additional markers that can be used to clarify shaed paternal ancestry and includes the X chromosome, which traces pathways for both the maternal and paternal lines and can be very helpful in finding answers in specific relationship questions
  • The autosomal STR test can provide genealogical information going back 5 generations (Family Tree claims up to 6)
  • The SNP test identifies a specific ethnic groups and geographic locations

The prices are very reasonable in comparison to some other genealogical DNA testing services, and range from $150 to $450 depending on how many people are tested and what type of tests need to be run to get answers specific questions.

GeneTree.com is a wholly owned subsidiary of the nonprofit Sorenson Molecular Genealogy Foundation. Over the past decade, the organization has created the world’s largest repository of correlated genetic and genealogical information and compiled a database of more than 100,000 DNA samples from more than 170 countries.
