According to an article in the Guysborough Journal the Guysborough Historical Society (GHS) has opened a new research center in thebasement of the Old Courthouse Museum. It’s available for use by visitors and locals for genealogical research.
Easy and safe access to museum archives, books and records is available year-round. The GHS also hopes that this repository will encourage genealogists to share their work thus making information more available to the wider public.
The goal is to attract people to visit the museum and conduct research and researchers will be encouraged to share their work, which in turn will make more information available to more people.
“On Saturday, July 16, 2011, the Guysborough Historical Society will host a reception at the Old Court House Museum from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. to celebrate the opening of the Research Centre. The reception will be an opportunity to introduce the new facility and thank our partners, and for those interested, take a guided tour throughout Guysborough to view the interpretive panels. All are welcome.”
