Former board member of the Association for Northern California Research and Records and well-known columnist Carllene Marek, has passed at the age of 72. The following death notice appeared in

“MAGALIA — Longtime Enterprise-Record columnist Carllene Marek died of cancer Tuesday at the age of 72.

Marek, who had been an avid genealogist, turned her hobby into a column, “AncestreeSeekers.” Her column started with the E-R in December 1993, after she suggested the idea to then-editor Jack Winning.

Marek’s column was recognized in 1995 and 1996 by the Council of Genealogy Columnists in its Excellence in Writing competitions. The column placed third in 1995 and second in 1996 in the general interest category.

She had been a member of Paradise Genealogical Society, Retired Telephone Pioneers and Daughters of the American Revolution. She moved to Magalia in 1989 from Sacramento. Her husband, Stan Feil, preceded her in death last year. She has three children, Connie Lewis and June Williams of Auburn and Don Williams of Oregon, five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.”
