Four tribal leaders have been recognized by the California State Assembly for their contributions to the promotion and preservation of Native American Indian history and culture in the state.

The State Assembly announced on August 25 that ACR 72: California Native American Heritage Month was passed

The bill was introduced by Assemblyman Luis A. Alejo which was coauthored by 67 assembly members. The resolution to recognize November 2011 as Native American History Month will honor James Ramos, chair of the San Manuel Band of Mission Indians; Nancy Ayala, tribal council vice-chair of the Picayune Indian Nation; Mark Macarro, chairman of the Pechanga Indian Nation; and Mary Ann Andreas, vice chair of the Morongo Band of Mission Indians.

    I accidently commented on the posting Jacobite Rebellion TWICE, but meant to post for the Native American heritage month in November. I am glad that the California state assmeblt has designated November for Native American Indian Heritage. I wish other states would adopt a similar resolution as well.
