Last words can often be viewed as a summing up of one’s life and to the ears of the listener those famous last words can mean a lot or leave us with yet another riddle.

People are captivated by last words often because those who are dying are more likely to speak the truth, but I believe it’s usually because we want to gain insight about what’s on the other side—one more assurance that there is a better place to be when our lives inevitably draw to a close.

In fact, people are so fascinated by last words and eulogies that there are numerous web sites devoted to last words of the famous and infamous. Some are gloomy, some filled with optimism, some humorous, and some merely attributed to the famous person (they probably didn’t say them).

To get to the point of this post, the eulogy by Steve Job’s sister Mona Simpson is simply beautiful and hit it out of the park. The New York Times published the tribute it in its entirety and readers will surely agree that it’s perfect, right down to the last words.
