Here’s one for the books. The digital book market is gaining so much traction with consumers and the publishing industry that the Wall Street Journal (WSJ) has expanded its relationship with Nielson BookScan to add a best-seller listing in the weekend edition of WSJ.
The new charts debuted on October 29 and includes contributed data from all major eBook retailers will include self-published digital releases, children’s books, perennials, fiction and nonfictions, and even included books priced at 99 cents.
A year ago, the WSJ expanded its weekend edition to include a pull-out section on books with reviews and features. The eBook list is included with the regular best-seller charts in the “Review” section and throws yet another spotlight on the future of publishing.
“Nielsen BookScan monitors the English-language book industry worldwide, gathering point-of-sale book data from about 12,000 locations across the U.S., representing about 75% of the nation’s book sales. Print-book data providers include all major booksellers and web retailers, as well as food stores (excluding Walmart and Sam’s Club).
